John & Avery decided to change up our format. They thought we needed a little maroon and white. This is for all of our MSU family and friends.

Picture Perfect

I have been playing around with our ultrasound picture, my computer and scanner, and I think I lighted the picture enough for you to make out the image. It is a close up of his little head and he is bringing his hand up to his nose. You can barely make out a couple of his fingers. We were watching Jack on a huge flat screen t.v. and he was crystal clear. I wish all of you could see him the way we did. You can't tell much from this picture, but believe me - he is beautiful!

Like father, like son. John has always crossed his ankles. When he is sitting in his chair watching t.v., in the bed at night (even while he is asleep) he has his ankles crossed. Jack had his ankles crossed during most of his ultrasound. He would uncross them for a minute or two, then cross them again. John got the biggest kick out of this.

It's A Boy

John and I went to Jackson Monday for a Level II sonogram and it's a boy! We are very excited and surprised. We both had boy on the brain. We felt good about the name we had picked out if the baby were a boy, but were still undecided about a girl's name. I gravitated toward baby boy's clothes and could see a little boy's room in my mind. I drew a blank when it came to a little girl. So, with boy on our minds, we knew it would be a girl! We were very surprised when the nurse said it was a boy. Our sweet little Jack!

We have a great picture and I hope to upload it in the next day or two. I am new to creating a blog, but thankfully Jack has two computer savvy uncles (Uncle Sam & Uncle David) who are pros! I will be calling on them a lot.

For those of you who have never had a Level II sonogram, they are amazing! We got to watch Jack play for about 30 minutes. And play he did. He was all over the place. Arms and legs, hands and feet moving the entire time. He was so busy playing, that the nurse didn't think she was going to be able to get all the measurements she needed. And every time she would move down towards his "manhood", he would bring his knees up in front of himself so we couldn't see. We were afraid we weren't going to be able to find out the sex. But he calmed down long enough for the nurse to get a good look and an excellent picture. (Jack, I promise I will not post the picture of your manhood.)

We also saw all of these red and blue spots on the screen. They were around his heart and stomach and they were flashing and moving. John compared it to the Doppler weather radar on t.v. and that is exactly what it looked like. John asked Dr. Perry what it was and Dr. Perry told us that it was the blood pumping through Jack's heart and the umbilical cord.

Dr. Perry spent a lot of time studying the heart, because he said it was the hardest organ to examine. But in the end, he said we have ourselves a healthy, active baby boy! He also agreed with Dr. Breeland that, because of my age, I would have to be monitored closely and would need to deliver before my December 28 due date.

Dr. Breeland will do another sonogram in about 8 to 10 weeks - just routine. At about 30 weeks, I will begin going to Dr. Breeland every week and have a test run, each time, to help her decide when we need to induce. She does this with all of her patients who are over 35, which she says makes up over half of her practice. I have been on pelvic rest since week 7, and she has not taken me off yet. And I continue to feel sick to my stomach everyday. But Jack is worth every single minute!

We could tell from his sonogram that he is a beautiful baby. And from the way he was acting, he is going to be a fun loving, active little boy. Dr. Perry told us that we may have our hands full with this one. God has truly blessed us and continues to bless us everyday. Please continue to pray for our sweet Jack and our remaining 20 weeks. And hopefully I can upload his sonogram picture very soon.
