Feburary 2012

While Jack and John are watching Peter Pan, I thought it would be a good time to update our blog. Love is in the air and we have, literally, been counting down the days to the 14th!!

This was my mom's idea. She found me this cute metal plaque and the hearts. I had exactly 14 hearts and I glued a magnet to the back of each one. I made the vinyl letters and stuck them on. It has been such a cute way for Jack to count down the days until Valentine's Day. I hung it at his level and every morning he gets up and removes a heart, sticks it on the frig, then counts the hearts that are left. I'm trying to come up with another cute way for him to count down to Easter. Something with little crosses would be cute. I'm working on it.

I always get stuck on what to do on my table for the holidays. This year an idea hit me when I saw these cute red 5x7 frames at the Dollar Tree. I bought 2 pieces of white poster board and cut out the letters L - O - V - E. I couldn't find red poster board, so I had to paint the letters red myself. I took Jack's picture with each letter and framed each one. I lined them up down the center of a red wooden mirror and spread several cute, SCENTED Valentine cards around the bottom. The pictures are my favorite and will be used every year. I'm not sure I'll have the heart to put them away with my Valentine decorations at the end of the month. (The mirror worked out really well. At meal time I just had to move the mirror and not each object.)

Flowers from my parent's yard.

Our "Tree of Love". When I think about love, the first thing that comes to my mind is 1 Corinthians 13. So I thought the verses of this chapter would be the perfect statements for our tree. I started with the word "LOVE" crafted and hung at the top of the tree. Then I cut out several hearts, typed and printed the main words from each verse, glued them together, and there you have it!! It's been a great way to teach Jack what the Bible says about love.

The banner my mom made for me a couple of years ago. I LOVE it and look forward to hanging it up every year.

Our buffet. At Christmas, I bought a box of red tree lights for the purpose of using them this month. I'm so glad I did. We've enjoyed having them light up the back of our buffet. Very festive!!

My mom found this mail box for me. It's made out of card board and had to be painted. It came out exactly the way I wanted.

We have two Scrabble games at our house, so I used the tiles from one to make a couple of projects.

A picture of Jack taken on his first Valentine's Day. It's so hard to believe he was ever that small.

The side board as you come in the carport door. Pretty much the same decorations I use here every year.

I picked this frame up at Wal-Mart for 97 cents, painted it and glued on the Scrabble tiles. I really like it and can use it all year.

Jack's Valentine basket. It started filling up over the weekend.

Last week, we had a few of Jack's friends over for a Valentine's lunch. I forgot to take pictures of the actual lunch food. It was just fun heart shaped sandwiches, Butter Finger Pie and these yummy pretzel, chocolate, M&M treats Natalie made for us. I did manage pictures of the "Before Lunch" snacks. I don't know who enjoys our playdates more, the moms or the kids.

There's nothing kids like more than getting to eat a lot of candy before lunch.

A new recipe I tried for the occasion - Apple Nachos! They are soooo good. Apples, caramel sauce, coconut, pecans and chocolate chips. Thank you Pinterest!!

Our group of sweet friends.

Wishing you a Valentine's Day full of ...

From us to you!!
