Jack loves his baby food. Sweet potatoes and bananas are his favorite. Last week I decided we should try something new. Maybe something he could chew, or in his case GUM. So he and I went to Wal-Mart Friday and found a couple of age appropriate goodies - Gerber Graduates whole-grain cheese puffs, yogurt melts, and a beginners sippy cup. Both the yogurt melts and cheese puffs are a little too big for Jack to eat whole, so I break them into VERY small bites. We started with the yogurt melts and the look on his face was priceless! His eyes got real big and he went, "Mmmmmm". The next day we tried the cheese puffs. Again, "Mmmmmm". Every time he took a bite he looked like he had just struck gold. He hasn't figured out how the sippy cup works yet. He thinks it's a chew toy, then when the juice comes out he looks surprised. We will have to keep working on it.
John works with two really nice men, who also happen to have two very nice gardens. John does not care for tomatoes, but I LOVE them. Nick and Mr. Johnny have been nice enough to send me a few delicious tomatoes this summer. Sunday, after church, I sliced a tomato, with salt, for my lunch - yummmm! As I was eating, and feeding Jack his lunch, I noticed him eyeing my tomato. I had to see what he would do, so I gave him a bite. He puckered his little face, but I believe that was more because of the texture than the taste, because he kept eating bite after bite. So, as you can tell, this weekend was a true culinary experience for Jack.
