For those of you who know us very well, you know that Avery is a huge part of our family. He and I were together for over a year before I met John. And he is the subject of all of our holiday cards.
I got Avery when he was eight weeks old. He was born in Hernando to my college roommate's grand father. When I went to Hernando to pick out my dog, I almost missed Avery. He was the runt of the litter. All of his brothers and sisters were on top of him and I didn't see him for a long time. It was only when I started picking up the other dogs that I saw something wiggling at the bottom of the pile.
I noticed right off the bat that Avery was much smaller than the rest. And that's when I knew I had to have him. I had to get him out from under that pile and take care of him. When I got him home, and he started scooting around the apartment, he looked more like a mouse than a dog. But it wasn't long before he started gaining weight. In his mind, he has always been the size of a German Shepard!
We don't know how Avery will react to Jack. We will have to watch the two very closely. I think after a little while, Avery will love Jack and be very protective of him. We also plan to keep a baby gate up in front of Jack's doorway, because we believe that is where Avery will want to sleep and spend all of his time.
I'm sure I will have many posts about Avery and Jack, so stayed tuned.
Now you know a little more about - AVERY!
